Standford Financial Group

Houston-based Stanford Financial, an investment firm run by R. Allen Stanford that claims to have more than $50 billion in assets, is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulators. They're taking a hard look at the CDs sold by Stanford Financial, which boast interest rates double the market average.

Stanford was the first American to be knighted by that Commonwealth nation and was presented with the honor by the then Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir James Carlisle.


LIAT, Pilots’ Union Finalise Items For Arbitration by Observer News

Regional airline LIAT and the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA) have finalised the matters which will go before arbitration in an attempt to reach agreement on outstanding labour and contractual issues.

A release from the airline said both sides settled on the items that will be addressed by the arbitration panel during a meeting yesterday at the Barbados Workers Union’s headquarters. It did not state what those matters would be.
